Adam Guest
Director / Criminal Lawyer

Adam is the Legal Practice Director of Guest Lawyers, a firm he established in 2008.

He was admitted to practice in Queensland , New South Wales and the High Court in 1999 after completing two years of articles of clerkship.

Adam has practiced in Criminal Law for the entirety of his career which has seen him appear in all jurisdictions as an advocate in trials, bail applications, sentences and appeals. He has represented people charged in many high profile matters, including the first successful defence of the VLAD laws.

A natural progression of Adam’s practice has been the necessary appearance for Judicial Review of Parole Board decisions and appearing in Criminal Proceeds Confiscations matters.

He is regularly instructed to appear in coercive hearings before the Crime and Corruption Commission and the Australian Crime Commission.

Because of his expertise and support for practitioners in the industry he is considered an industry leader.

Kris Jahnke

Kris has carved out a successful career in the fields of criminal law, administrative law and litigation since starting in the industry in 2005. He has worked on a number of high profile cases and developed a unique knowledge of the requirements to properly defend a person’s rights.

Kris has experience working with clients charged with Murder, Serious Drug Offences, Assaults, Serious Sex Offences including Child Sex Offences, Stealing, Fraud at Commonwealth and State Level and Traffic Offences. Kris has also had experience making Applications to the Magistrates court including Special Hardship Order Applications and Work Licence Applications.

In addition to his extensive experience in criminal law, he also regularly represents clients involved in commercial litigation.

Kris is regularly retained to appear in trials before the Magistrates Court, District and Supreme Court. He also regularly appears before the Court of Appeal and the District Court in its appellant jurisdiction. He also has experience in the Federal jurisdictions including the High Court.

Kris is committed to ensuring clients know where they stand in relation to their legal defence by making himself available at all hours of the day. He has a strong belief that for lawyers to properly represent a client they must be easily accessible and willing to talk through any issues the client may have.

Kris has graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. He is also admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

Adam Dwyer

Adam has completed Bachelor and Masters degrees in law. He has been awarded postgraduate degrees in Commercial Law and Criminology and has completed a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Justice.

He is a former lecturer in Justice Studies at Queensland TAFE and is presently studying towards his Doctor of Laws.

Adam is well placed by virtue of his qualifications to advise and represent corporate clients and individuals in all white collar crime matters. He appears in all courts and Crime Commission hearings.

On the basis of his tertiary qualifications, one might be forgiven for thinking that Adam is an ‘academic’ lawyer. Nothing could be further from the truth.

“It’s hardly surprising that I learned most about the workings of criminal law investigating major crime in Brisbane and prosecuting in the Magistrates Court. I am now well entrenched in private practice and really enjoying my role as a criminal defence advocate in a leading firm."

Jac Thong

Jac has been in the employ of Guest Lawyers since 2013. He graduated from theQueensland University of Technology with Bachelor degrees in Laws (Honours) and Business (Finance). He also has completed his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and is an admitted solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland.

He has since been exposed to a range of very serious criminal proceedings, as well as matters concerning administrative law and litigation. This has led to him gaining a wealth of experience in appearing before all court jurisdictions in Queensland, including the Magistrates Court, District and Supreme Court. He also regularly appears in the Court of Appeal and District Court on appellant matters.

Jac prides himself on effective communication with each client to ensure they feel comfortable throughout the process and are well aware of their options so informed decisions can be made. He has worked with clients charged with Murder, Trafficking in Dangerous Drugs and other serious drug offences, Drug Importations, Serious Sex Offences including Rape and Child Sex offences, Assaults, Stealing, Fraud, Money Laundering, Domestic Violence Strangulation and Traffic offences.

Importantly, he has worked on serious cases involving the Vicious Lawless
Association Disestablishment (VLAD) circumstance of aggravation and the Serious and Organised Crime circumstance of aggravation attached to criminal offences.

He is a highly valued member of the firm, who exercises his experience and
knowledge of criminal law to work efficiently deliver the best results for his clients. In doing so, Jac epitomises professionalism and being personable in the work place, with an intense focus towards perfection.

Lewis Hunter
Law Clerk

Lewis has been a working as Law Clerk at Guest Lawyers since 2015. He is an integral member of the team, who prides himself on liaising with clients effectively and not leaving any query unanswered.

His trademark is intensely immersing himself in any matter so he can problem solve at length with both solicitors and counsel, to help deliver the best result for a client. Lewis is dedicated to furthering his knowledge and experience in criminal and administrative law and does so by working fiercely to make a habit of achieving positive results for our firm.

Since beginning at Guest Lawyers, Lewis has gained valuable experience appearing before a number of courts throughout Queensland, including the Magistrates, District and Supreme courts. Lewis is in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Business degree at the Queensland University of Technology.

Tam Chapman
